Web Acquisition/Transformation Engineer

General Functions:
Reporting to Manager of Editorial, the Web Acquisition/Transformation Engineer will automate the acquisition, and transformation of web based content from our business partners into the Content Management System. This work will be done in adherence to taxonomy standards as outlined by the company's content experts. The Web Acquisition/Transformation Engineer provides insight on long term technology solutions to meet the company's information collection and transformation requirements.

Scope & Dimensions:
The Web Acquisition/Transformation Engineer is responsible for supporting the information needs of the company and ensuring the continued availability and accessibility of content that is critical to the successful production of the commercial products. Working with appropriate departments to acquire information, effectively schedule and perform acquisition, transformation, manage the ingestion process, and provide protection of information assets.

Essential
Responsibilities:
Provides input and direction with the appropriate application of industry standards as it pertains to content structure and usability within Internet based publishing
Recommends and implements processing utilities
Continuously drives improvements in information acquisition, transformation and delivery processes
Provides assistance to application development personnel regarding content structures. Acts as in-house consultant to system designers to ensure the most efficient use of content
Stays apprised of changes and innovations in document delivery technology, review of industry publications, and supplementary educational activities.
Consults with, advises, and assists Editorial staff on authoring techniques to increase data access and better allow products to exploit the content
Develops and maintains a positive rapport between product development, production administration and the Editorial and IT Departments
Works with Production Control to automate acquisition, transformation and ingestion processes

Experience and Educational Requirements:
CS degree, or equivalent experience, and 3-5 years professional experience in Content Management and RDBMS
Solid understanding of web content, including HTML, Frames, XPath, and JavaScript is necessary to effectively automate the acquisition, transformation, and categorization of information.
Required Skills: Strong familiarity with XML, SGML, XQuery, XSLT
Required Language: Python, Ruby, Java, or Perl
Desired Skills: Selenium web driver browser automation, AutoIt windows automation
Effective written and oral communication and presentation skills

Professional office environment using personal computers

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
